The Administrative Office of U.S. Courts advises that fake NEFs are being sent to attorneys and law firms nationwide.  These fake NEFs are phishing attempts and are designed to convince the recipient to respond and open a subsequent email that leads the recipient to a malicious website.  All NEF recipients are encouraged to closely review their emails, to validate case information through CM/ECF only, and not to download any attachments or click any links from questionable sources.
